There’s something extra special about photographing a family more than once. Watching little ones grow, seeing familiar faces, and capturing the love and connection between everyone—it’s truly one of the best parts of my job. This was my second time photographing the Houghton family, and let me just say… they’re one of my absolute favorites to have in front of my camera!
For this session, we met near Dana Point at a beautiful beach that gave us the dreamiest golden light. It was the kind of evening where everything aligned. A warm sunset, and a family totally present and ready to have fun together. As a Dana Point photographer it’s exactly what I look for.
That’s what made this session shine. The Houghtons embraced the moment. The parents laughed, played, and ran right alongside their kiddos, soaking it all in. That kind of joy and connection? You can’t fake it—and it always, always leads to the most meaningful photos. I really can’t say it enough: when families are just themselves and enjoy each other, the magic follows.
And just when I thought it couldn’t get better, we wrapped up the session by kicking off our shoes and getting our feet wet at the end. The kids splashed around, everyone was giggling, and the waves gave us the perfect, playful ending. Some of my absolute favorite images from the day came from those last few moments. Sandy toes and pure happiness.
